Competition Motors gears up for its second Mustang Challenge campaign with race-winning driver Tom Tait contesting the full season and the optional Le Mans Invitational event in June.
Having previously operated as MDK Motorsports, the Ohio-based team now proudly flies the Competition Motors banner in 2025 and will see Tom Tait continue to pilot the No. 8 Ford Mustang Dark Horse R for all 12 rounds of the Mustang Challenge Season in North America, plus the invitational round at the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Tait is looking to build off of a strong effort in 2024 after a fifth-place finish in last season’s Dark Horse Legends driver standings. Tait notably won the inaugural Mustang Challenge race in the Dark Horse Legends class at Mid-Ohio last summer.
Tom Tait: “I’m thrilled to be back in the No. 8 car this season and I’m itching to get back on track. Last season started pretty well for us, and I’m hoping to replicate that success this year and push to collect some more hardware for the team. The cars have some new parts on them this year from Ford that should help the performance and the racing, so hopefully, we can utilize that and fight for a title this season.”

“Sebring is such a great venue to kick off the year, and I’m just excited to get going. The team has been working really hard in the off-season, and I’m looking forward to returning the favor with some good results on track.”
Competition Motors is actively working on adding additional cars for both North American Mustang Challenge competition as well as for the Le Mans Invitational.
The team is no stranger to the IMSA paddock, with a presence on multiple support series grids as well as in the WeatherTech Championship’s GTD class with their Korthoff Competition Motors entry owned with Herb Korthoff. Team Chairman Chris Lucas is an accomplished member of the motorsports paddock himself, having enjoyed success both on the competition side as an Indy Lights team owner, and in the business world with more than 20 years of franchise experience. Lucas’ passion for the Blue Oval is also evident away from the track as the proud owner along with Malcom Ross of the White’s Ford car dealership in Springfield, Ohio.
Chris Lucas: “I am incredibly proud of the team’s effort ahead of the 2025 season and I look forward to building off of the success the team established last season. The Le Mans invitational round is going to be a great opportunity for us to showcase all of the hard work everyone has been putting in behind the scenes and to show what Competition Motors is capable of on the global stage.”
“Tom has been such a valuable asset to this team and I can’t wait to see him back in victory lane again this season in the No. 8 car. He’s been part of the MDK family and his involvement with us has been amazing. We’re lucky to have him in our car for the full season and the invitational round over in France.”
“Overall, we are thrilled with our current stable this season, with room for growth as things progress this year. Our presence in Mustang Challenge is a perfect complement to the other programs we’re running this season in the IMSA paddock.”
